Venue

The wedding will be up at our family farm in Laguna, NSW. This is a 2 hour drive from Sydney in the scenic Hunter Valley. The full address is:

Please note that there is no mobile phone reception at the farm. You will lose it approximately 30 minutes before arriving on the property. You can find written driving directions to get there from Sydney here. Please download them in advance!

Accommodation

You have several accommodation options for the wedding, including:

  1. Camping on-site (free – please let us know so we can keep you a spot)
  2. Glamping on-site ← recommended, book by 23/09
  3. Renting a place in Laguna or Wollombi (see here or here or here for options)

Dress code

This event is in a paddock. Indian garb and smart casual clothing recommended. If in doubt, wear bright colours.

Things to do in the area

Laguna

Great Northern Trading Post

Local cafe, restaurant and bar. It has a small general store and a petrol station. Try the Incy Wincy Cyder, but beware it has an alcohol content of 16%.

A spring market is scheduled for 4 October 2020 and located in the GNTP.

Gallery 33 resides in GNTP and showcases local artists. In October the Gallery will exhibit art works by Janine Oliver, Jillian Ryder & Nancy Gray.

Laguna Village Providore

This shop is right next to the Great Northern Trading Post. It has a wide range of specially selected local produce.

Finchley Lookout – Mt Yengo

Mt Yengo is to the Aborigines of NSW, as Uluru is to the Aborigines of central Australia. It was traditionally used for learning and ceremony for more than 10,000 years. You can see the tabletop Mt Yengo from the Finchley Lookout and read about the rich Aboriginal heritage in the park and surrounding area.

To get there, turn west into Yango Creek Road either from Great North Rd just south of Laguna or from Paynes Crossing Rd in Wollombi. Continue onto Upper Yango Creek Road and follow west onto the Finchley track and onto the lookout. The road is unsealed but usually accessible by 2WD.

You can also do the 1 km Finchley cultural walk.

The Aboriginal paintings and artefacts in this gallery embody the meaning of Wollombi – ‘meeting place’. Artists, both local and from afar, share ancient and continuous connections with country. Come and enjoy our ever-changing works, the stories they tell and videos of local corroborees. This not-for-profit gallery is run and maintained by community volunteers, with 90% of monies paid to the artists.

The Gallery is currently presenting the eclectic, inspiring works of six local creatives: Darren Casey’s rustic industrial upcycled furniture, Elisa Krey’s handmade ceramics, Stephen Coburn’s metal sculptures, Nicole de Mestre’s basketry and Adrian Dal Bianco’s Mapacho leather creations and Linda Wilkinson’s busk in functional fabric art. This gallery has just opened in the Gray’s Inn building next to Noyce Brothers Wines in the heart of Wollombi. Initially established in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, it specialises in Fine Art Music Photography and Limited Edition Rock ‘n’ Roll Prints.

Wollombi Tavern

This iconic pub at the road junction in Wollombi is the home of Dr Jurd’s Jungle Juice, a dangerous brew of port, brandy and wine. Have a Dr. Jurd’s Jungle Juice and enjoy the wrap around verandah.

Balloon Aloft

A one hour balloon flight adventure over the Hunter Valley vineyards with the award-winning Balloon Aloft, followed by a gourmet breakfast and bubbles at the famous Peterson House winery.

Flights daily at sunrise, weather permitting. Children must be aged 7 years an older. All passengers must reach minimum fitness to fly requirements.

Great North Walk

The Great North Walk, which is a bush walk from Sydney to Newcastle, crosses Watagan Creek Rd. Try the 4 km Watagan Creek Road to Flat Rock section but make sure you print out the notes before you arrive. It is a very steep walk along a rough track and some bushwalking experience is recommended by National Parks.

Hunter Valley Bicycle Rentals

The Adventure Centre Hunter Valley

(50 minute drive from the Trading Post through Broke)

The Hunter Valley’s only dedicated centre for a wide range of adventure experiences. They offer horse riding, electric bike hire, Segway tours, wine and beer tasting, candy making, pizza making, grape stomping, barrel rolling and more all in the name of fun!

They are at the Hunter Valley Resort cnr Hermitage Road and Mistletoe Ln, Pokolbin NSW 2320.

Massages

There are two massage companies in the area:

On the way home on Monday

Stop at Dos Juans Fine Food. They make fresh and smoked chorizo, pasta and cheese on their organic farm. On the Monday of every long weekend they have a Farm Gate from 9 am at which they sell their own products and also have many other stall holders selling other products.
