We are using plaster to study hydro-chemo-mechanical coupling in porous media. As water is pumped through plaster, it dissolves the plaster, changing the local pressure distribution, and creating a feedback loop where the velocity increases in locations where it dissolves, further increasing the dissolution rate. Also, it makes beautiful pictures.
